The Vitkovics house, which is the home of György Kepes Visual Centre was built in Copf style in 1760. The building was a Greek clergy house and was opened as a museum by the town in 1989.
In the house you can see the room of Mihály Vitkovics (1778 – 1829) who was a poet and a interpreter as well. This house is also home of the permanent exhibition of artist György Kepes. His lifes’ work is illustrated through almost 200 pieces of his art that can be seen in this house (paintings, drawings, plans, sketches and photos.) It is accompanied by hundreds of documents which help us to get to know the details of his lifes’ work, which is not so well known in Hungary. Here we can see the plans of his huge art projects, photo documents, documentary evidence of his years as a teacher, plans and documents of his kinetic works. Besides its’ exhibitions, the Visual Centre is also important because of its cultural work. Art lessons, play activities, free time activities, exhibitions and lectures on the history of Art are organised here.
